Charlie Cumbley - TCYC Honorary Members Story
Published 14:26 on 5 Aug 2026
Born into a Teignmouth sailing dynasty and practically raised at TCYC, Charlie has been chasing wind, waves and winning trophies for as long as he can remember. After progressing from an old hand-me-down 420 to World Championship success, an Olympic Finn squad berth and racing alongside sailing legends including Sir Ben, Andrew Bart Simpson, Ian Percy and Chris Brittle, he somehow still found time to collect countless national, European and world titles.
TCYC made Charlie an honorary member in recognition of his achievements and for flying the flag for TCYC across the world.
Now 45, Charlie juggles elite racing, coaching future champions, designing sails for North Sails UK, and family life in Warsash where he tries to convince his wife and two daughters that every conversation needs to be about boats. Proof that some people were simply born with saltwater in their veins.
