Club Sports boats safety briefing and protocols.
Whilst TCYC takes every care to ensure the safety of crew and skippers on the club's sport boats, sailing is an adventure activity and cannot be made completely safe.
The primary risk to crew members are injury from contact with the boom or mainsheet leading to a possible concussion and falling overboard either whilst transferring from the Tender to the Keel boat or whilst sailing. Your skipper will brief you on these and other risks throughout the trip. Please pay attention and follow their instructions. If you don't understand the instruction, please ask the Skipper to explain it.
Where possible we have identified the possible risks to crew member and documented them along with the actions we take to mitigate these risks in the Keel Boat Risk assessment document. Please
The Sports boat SOP details the Operating Processes we use to minimise the risk of injury to crew.
Protocols describe the actions to be taken in the event of a "Man Overboard" or a possible concussion.
