2025 Cruiser Racing Calendar
In the past we have scheduled four evening series of six races, starting in late April and finishing at the end of September / beginning of October.
This always gives a very short window of daylight at the beginning and end of the season and requires us to start races at 18:15 to get any sailing in at all. This start time is difficult for people in employment to make and so reduces crew options for some boats. Also, historically, some boats you have struggled to get afloat for the first few races so this relieves the pressure slightly.
I would like to suggest we change from 24 Wednesday evenings to 21, starting this years season on the Wednesday 30th April (Sunset 19:32) until Wednesday 17th September (Sunset 19:22). With an 18:30 start for the first and last three races. The races would be organised as three seven race series with 1 discard. All 21 races would count for the Mitchel Hedges trophy.
To make up for the lost races I would like to schedule more Weekend races on weekends when there is no racing at Coombe Cellars. There are 15 possible Sundays, but I have left out the Sunday of Dartmouth regatta as several TCYC crews are normally involved and I suggest we also avoid the Spring tide on 27th April. This could be a single series or two 7 races series.
I have put the dates and relevant tidal info in the attached PDF. For Sunday races I have shown the times that the tidal predictions show less than 2 m above datum. The channel is maintained to at least 1.5m below datum (book) so those times give you at least 1.5m below your keel, obviously an easterly would reduce that margin.
We could schedule some passage races for these weekends and hopefully involve some non-racer's in a "port visit" if there is support for this.
Finally is there any appetite for a spring or autumn Regatta over a Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday?
Please email Steve your thoughts on this.
