Charlie Cumbley lifts World Title in OK Dinghy

Published 08:23 on 14 Aug 2022
Out of a field of 109 Charlie Cumbley of TYC, the only Brit sailing, lifted the 2022 World Championship crown in the OK Dinghy. The event, held in Marstrand (45 miles north of Gothenberg) in Sweden, was tricky for all competitors but after the first day Charlie mastered the conditions, led the fleet home with two bullets on Day 2 and never looked back after that. A nail biting Day 5 ended when AP over A was flown as no wind meant no sailing and Charlie's overnight lead of just 0.4 points could not be challenged.
Flying the flag for TCYC, Charlie is a true master of dinghy sailing having won many national titles over the years, been a youth world champion in the Finn dinghy but this is his first dinghy world championship. All of us at TCYC a incredibly proud to have Charlie as a member and ambassador for our wonderful club. WELL DONE CHARLIE!
