Shaldon SC Bicentenary

Published 17:58 on 14 Jul 2023

As many will know we at TCYC were hugely impressed with Shaldon SC reaching an incredible milestone of 200 years since their founding. We were pleased to support their fund raising efforts and in return we received this kind Thank You

Hi Jane,

A big "thank you" to you and all the helpers at TCYC who supported the Shaldon Sailing Club fundraising events. Sufficient funds were generated from the events to buy the new safety boat when combined with the proceeds from the sale of the old one.

The total money banked after expenses from the fantastic evening at TCYC was £1,482. This includes ticket sales, donations, and raffle. This huge profit was due to the people only charging 'below costs' for the food and Julian and his band playing for free!
A number of Shaldon Sailing Club members were impressed with the facilities at Eastcliffe and are thinking of joining.

Additionally, from the Party Boat and other activities over the weekend a profit of approx. £2,607 was made.
Well done everyone especially to Chris and Jenny for selling so many party boat and raffle tickets.

The sailing was great fun despite there not being much wind on 2 of the 3 days. It was very well supported with both modern and old boats. The big marquee on the beach with all the old photos attracted a great deal of attention. Jane Shaddick promoted her new Morgan Giles book and answered many questions about the family and local boatyard.

Julian's Atlanta (1936 gentleman yacht) appeared on a trailer and Alec Colier's Steam boat appeared both on the water and later on it's trailer on the beach.

None of the above could have happened without the support of so many people, from the food providers, TCYC bar persons to the use of Jim's trailer, and of course the inspiration from Jane.

We sail every Sunday so if any TCYC members want to come and have a go in a dinghy at battling the waves and tides please let me know and we should be able to find you a boat.

Thank you again and best wishes,
Roger
