Paul Barczoc

Paul Barczok 1953-2023

It is with great sadness that TCYC informs you of the tragic, sudden death of Paul Barczok who collapsed with a heart attack on Monday 11th December on the back beach.

Paul was a dedicated, hard working, life member, Trustee and Treasurer of TCYC for many years. He navigated the finances of the club through the building of the Eastcliff clubhouse and then worked tirelessly alongside Reg Nuttall and others to repay the capital of the mortgage as soon as possible to ensure the Club was on a sound financial footing for the foreseeable future. The huge amount of work required from Paul as Treasurer when TCYC was running National and World Championships never phased him and he was always a willing player in putting TCYC on the sailing map.

Also as Treasurer his meetings with the VAT inspectors were legendary, many times the meetings would end with the inspectors agreeing that the Club was owed money rather than the other way round! A coup in itself of which Paul was always very proud!

I think Paul would forgive me when I say that he was not a 'natural' sailor, sails were fine, but he was happier with something that had a decent size engine! Bu that said, his ebullient enthusiasm when crewing with Reg Nuttall on "Jester" was something to behold.

Paul's passion for TCYC was strong, but his love and devotion for his Family was infinite and to call yourself a friend of Paul's was an honour. The Club, the Town and the back beach will be a sadder place now he has gone but we owe it to Paul's memory to embrace his love for life and move forward.

TCYC as a whole has a lot to thank him for and the Club sends heartfelt sympathy to Jill and the Family on behalf of all members.
