Christmas Dinghy Regatta

Teignworthy Brewery very kindly sponsored the Christmas Dinghy Regatta held at TCYC’s Coombe Cellars facility on the south side of the River Teign. Three days of sailing were promised between Dec 29 and 31. In the event only two days of sailing materialised as the weather gods did not play ball on the 30th.

Fancy dress was supposed to be the order of the day for the first day but only a few inebriated souls deigned to wear festive hats with the winner being Toby Sherwin looking like a girly Santa.

A south westerly F3 was predicted which is ideal for us on the Teign allowing pretty true beats with nice long downwind legs. Starting Race one at 10.00 and it was more like a F1, maybe F2.

Paul Craft in his RS100 got away cleanly but never built a sufficiently big lead over the solos and Andy Colyer came home first on corrected time. As race two got underway the breeze was finally getting up to a 3 with some gusts of 4, possibly 5. But by this time the tide was starting to flow and several folk got caught out at not just the windward mark but the leeward mark as well. So there were lots of turns being done as people tried to exonerate themselves. Rear Commodore Dinghies was beside himself at the end as he came home second in his Solo behind Andy Colyer. So Day 1 results read Andy Colyer first, Paul Craft second and Ben Miles third.
