The 13th race of the year and first of the Scott Richards series at Teign Corinthian Yacht Club for the cruisers got underway on Wednesday 16th July. It was a steady force 2 picking to 3 which created the largest number of finishers this year with the ever growing fleet.
As Rear Commodore Giles Bowerman was doing the race officer duties; he sent the yachts out to the Babbacombe mark before reaching to the outer sea mark and then to the Dawlish mark before finally beating back to the clubhouse marks. The start was frantic but Juno, Coral and Redshank were over the line. Mayhem Plus and Snowstorm were first round windward mark and held their positions to the finish line.
Majic and Juno caught up to Snowstorm but couldn’t get past. The faster boat of Coral was able to finish in front of the slow fleet boats but finished last overall. Overall the local adjustable handicap produced some surprising results, Majic who have had good form of late were second bottom with Juno just in front. FireFox got their highest result of the year with 3rd with Snowstorm second. But Dancer however was the biggest surprise ending up winning the race. That win means that they are the 7th different race winner of the year.
It’s great to see a new boat win this year as it’s their first year. New boats are always welcomed as the ever growing fleet keeps building with racing every Wednesday.
