Coombe Cellars Dinghy Regatta

A reminder that our annual Coombe Cellars Dinghy Regatta will be sailed next weekend, the 3rd and 4th September. Five races are scheduled with three to count. Two races will be sailed on Saturday and three on Sunday. First start Saturday: 9:30 am. First start Sunday: 10.00 am. As usual, we plan to run both Slow and Fast Handicap fleets plus an all-in Novice/Cadet fleet. The Regatta Entry Fee will be £5.00 per boat for Adults and £2.00 per boat for Juniors. Cadet Sail Training 2011

Our annual dinghy sail training for junior members took place between 25 – 29 July. 13 newly-joined youngsters and 6 cadets re-joining from last year took part. Sail training for beginners took place in our club-owned Otters, with an adult instructor in each boat. Those seeking to reach the ‘Start Sailing’ Stages 3 and 4 sailed in the RS Q’bas owned by 1st Shaldon Sea Scouts and generously made available for club use during this week. The weather was kind all week, mostly sunny and with gentle winds, ideal for both beginners and those seeking to improve their sailing skills.

The final races in the four individual Spring Series where completed this weekend and we are now looking forward to moving into summer mode at Coombe Cellars. Here is a summary of the results and the planned sailing programme for the next few months. The Spring Saturday Handicap Series was won by Mike Commander (Laser) just two points ahead of Sammie Colyer (Laser Radial). Young Ben Flower (Q’ba/Laser 4.7) was third having completed every race in the series. Ben’s commitment to his sailing was rewarded with a first overall in the Spring Sunday Handicap Series with Sammie again losing out

Thursday Evening Training at CC

Five RS Q’bas, two RS Fevas, a Laser 4.7, RS Vision, Terra, three support boats and around 30 enthusiastic young (and some older) sailors took to the water last night (May 5th) for the first regular Thursday evening sail training session. Thanks to all those experienced Members who came along to help out. The next session is scheduled for Thursday 19th May starting at 6pm.
