A total of seventeen boats took part in today’s TCYC Pursuit Race in good sailing conditions at Coombe Cellars. Four RTSS Tera dinghies started first and had a close race round the first lap. Their lead was gradually reduced although Archie Miles in a Tera held onto the lead for the first two laps and was only passed by Rosie Karakusevic in her Topper at the end of the third lap finishing the lap in second place.
By this time the faster boats had started and were closing in on the Cadets in their slower boats. The fourth lap had James Stevenson in the lead in his Solo followed by two more Solos. Although James held onto the lead for the next three laps Mike Commander in Ray Potter’s K1 was remorselessly working through the fleet on each lap from 13th to 10th to 9th then 7th, 4th and 3rd.
On the seventh lap Mike passed James to take the lead only to lose it at the end of the lap when James chose the better side for the beat.
The battle continued on the eighth lap with Mike steadily reducing the gap and retook the lead in front of the spectators on the shore with only three minutes to go to the end.
Mike Commander duely won the Pursuit Race with James Stevenson in second place and Graham Tapper in another Solo in third place closely followed by Paul Craft and Tracy Edwards in an RS200 in fourth place.
The highest placed Cadet was Ben Flower in 7th place in his Laser with Archie Miles in a Tera being the highest beginner in 12th place.
