Yacht Ginger had to miss our regatta this year as TCYC sailors Chris and Nick Clarance with wives Sally and Lauren, were joined by Tony Ryan and Richard Salmon for a trip to Weymouth to support Ian Percy and Ben Ainslie in their successful quests for medals.

En route there was driving rain, force 5 to 6, a reef in the main and number 3 jib, big seas at Portland and cold. They left at 5am Saturday arrived in Weymouth 11am. They were one of only two yachts arriving from the west that day! There was a lot of security plus £198 for the night in Weymouth Harbour, but it was great watching the big screens on Weymouth Beach for free.

On Sunday, Ben, who passed close by on his way to the start, was given bugle and cymbals to cheer him on, which he acknowledged. (Chris claims that’s why he won gold!). At the end Ben passed close to them at the entrance to Portland Harbour. There were only about 20 or so yachts out watching but Ben got a great reception by the few who were there.
At 3pm Ginger started for home, 46 miles, tide with them all the way, motor on, average speed over ground 7.6 knots, plus great weather too, arriving at 9pm just before darkness.
