Sailing takes place from Coombe Cellars, on the south bank of the Teign estuary,
most weekends throughout the year. Facilities are provided for dinghy
storage, changing, toilets, showers, gear storage and boat washing. Tea
and coffee are available for a small charge to cover costs.
Access from the car park is over level ground offering facilities to those who are less able to clamber up hills and hummocks, this makes for a pleasant time watching the boats in action. Activities are not confined to racing, although there is a very active racing fleet, as the Teign Estuary offers a pretty and sheltered cruising ground for smaller boats. The hardy racers can be seen battling it out for handicap race honours even in mid winter, there is even an influx of boats from other local clubs who stop sailing during the colder months. All Portsmouth Yardstick recorded classes of boat are welcome to race in the TCYC fleet which comprises of the usual cross section, from the humble but important Optimist, through to the fast and exotic! Young people are particularly well catered for at TCYC. The club runs RYA training courses for both children and adults, there is a healthy cadet fleet racing regularly, often beating the parents! See the link to the Training page on the left for details of RYA training courses this year. A regular news letter is produced for users of the facilities at Coombe Cellars, which can be found from the link on the right. And finally , there's a pub next door, can it get any better? |
