The Coombe Cellars National Solo Open Meeting 2009 was held over the weekend of 12/13th September and attracted a fleet of 25 boats, including visiting helms from the Midlands, South East England, Wales and Cornwall.

The two races on the Saturday were sailed in brilliant sunshine and a stiff, demanding easterly wind blowing straight up the river from Teignmouth. The days results were dominated by Ian Maclean from Restronguet Falmouth, who recorded a 2nd and a 1st place and Stuart Hyden, a regular open visitor from the Shustoke sailing club, who sailed to a win and a third place.

The easterly wind had abated slightly on the Sunday morning but the sunshine remained to provide excellent sailing conditions for all the competitors. Race three was won by Bob Taylor, again a regular open visitor from the Corus club. The race four victory went to our home club sailor Simon Jones who had sailed himself to the top of the leader board along with Maclean and Hyden the overnight leaders. With all three helms on 6 points after one discard and one deciding race remaining it could not have been tighter. The final race was sailed in lighter winds with Maclean holding on to take the victory and the overall event win.
